GUIDED TOURS TO THE MEMORIAL PASSAGES TO WALTER BENJAMIN

"Passages Memorial to Walter Benjamin" and  Walter Benjamin symbolic tomb in Portbou.

The Associació Passatges de Cultura Contemporània organises guided tours to the main points of the passage of Walter Benjamin (Berlin, 1892 - Portbou 1940) in the village and the  Passages Memorial to Walter Benjamin by Dani Karavan at the cementery. The work was declared in 2018 by Generalitat de Catalunya Cultural Asset of National Interest (BICN) in the category of historical place.

The purpose of the tour is to discover the last passage of this philosopher who committed suicide in Portbou on 26th September 1940, shortly after a strenous crossing of the Pyrenees on foot. Benjamin realised he was going to be repatriated. So, he was fleeing to the United States. Morover, the tour offers an explanation of the work Passages by Dani Karavan.
